Web Construction In Costa Rica: How Individuals Spoil The Business

Submitted by: Rashid Herrera

The web developing industry is being harmed because there are individuals who charge low prices and provide mediocre quality. In order to not leave everyone else without a job, they should charge increased prices.

Many individuals who work as web designers appear to be damaging the business it two areas, which are price ranges and quality of what is being made available.

Some of these workers have discovered that building a site costs lots of cash. For this reason, these people choose to do it on their own. They charge half the price, and their employers never find out. By doing this, they earn some extra money. Many of these workers were fired last year after a crisis had begun. These individuals grew to become the competition.

Once these workers reach the road, these people offer their services at an especially highly affordable price, and these individuals keep lowering it. In fact, before they used to charge around $1000. Nevertheless, now there are some that even charge $50. Being such a highly affordable price, many times they don’t do the job very well. Of course, this doesn’t always occur, but most low-budget web sites have many of the following factors:

A not very good style. The same theme in every page. Code with many faults. Little or no on-site location.

There are, of course, exceptions. Some people charge highly affordable fees and perform a first-rate job. However, most of these people are destroying the web constructing industry, due to the fact that most of the individuals who do these things give the client a website that is not very good for competition, which gives them few positive factors, unless these individuals are in a sector that is not very competitive.

In Costa Rica there is a good benefit, which is the fact that there are many sectors that can reach the top 5 with no trouble because of the little competition. Examples of these are phone sales, personal computer sales, laptop sales, motor vehicle sales, etcetera. This advantage has a setback, nonetheless. Because of this, many designers think that these individuals are very good. This is due to the fact that even though their websites are not very good in quality, they are well placed.

So why do they damage the web constructing business?

Other than charging very highly affordable fees, these people pretend to provide the same quality as other developers and developers that make competitive sites. These people find customers in competitive sectors and since the charge little, these people win the customer over, but the result of their services doesn’t generate income for the client, which makes it so that the consumer loses faith and decides not to invest in web designing any more.

The important thing is that if you’re going to charge low fees, you should adjust your price in case you need qualified help. There is a phrase that says “no pain no gain.” Well, in search engine optimization, that is totally appropriate. To have a well positioned web-site, you must invest a lot. So, in order to not leave everyone else on the streets, you must not charge such reduced fees. If you’re wondering why, this is the reason: Someday, your corporation is going to grow, and you will have a lot of extra expenses. However, all the reduced fees that you and many other men and women have been charging is going to have taken its toll. You will learn that all the other organizations have closed up, and now there are only freelancers. This will make it impossible to open your own enterprise.

Wolfowitz picked for top spot at World Bank

Friday, March 18, 2005

The White House announced the selection of Paul Wolfowitz to head the World Bank, replacing John Wolfensohn who retires as acting president after 10 years. The switch is expected to occur sometime in June.

The choice of Wolfowitz is raising controversy in Europe and developing nations. Known as hawkish and outspoken, Wolfowitz was a pro-Iraqi war neo-conservative in his role as deputy Secretary of Defense, and a chief architect in the build up to war with Iraq. Some question whether Wolfowitz, who was criticized for brushing aside European and NATO calls for caution before the Iraq war, would use the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as tool to extend U.S. foreign policy interests.

Historically, it has been the White House’s prerogative to name the candidate because the U.S. holds a majority on the 24 member board, but board members from nations other than the U.S. are seeking their own interviews to qualify the candidate before a change is made. “The executive directors have agreed to conduct informal meetings over the coming days with the US nominee as part of the consultative process.” the IMF said in a statement. “Thereafter, the executive directors will meet in a formal session to select the president at which time an official announcement of the outcome will be made,” it said. The vote is set for March 31, the same day Wolfensohn retires.

Rob Nichols, the US Treasury spokesperson, said Wolfowitz has begun scheduling meetings with board members and that, “Our nominee… looks forward to meeting with and listening to members of the World Bank board.” Reuters reported. In the meantime, Wolfowitz has worked to assure those with concerns of him, saying he would come with an open mind and no political program.

Motion on transgender women in sports defeated in Queensland Parliament

Friday, May 13, 2022

The Parliament of Queensland, Australia rejected a motion on Wednesday by the Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) that argued allowing transgender women to play in women’s sports teams would “erode the integrity of female sport”.

The motion stated “anyone who supports biological men playing in female sport, irrespective of age group, level or code, is complicit in eroding the integrity of female sport and therefore women’s rights”, and that, due to “insurmountable physical advantages”, transgender women would “pose an unfair competitive advantage against, and/or safety risk” against other athletes if competing in women’s sport.

The motion failed 49 votes to 33, with support from the KAP, the Liberal National Party (LNP), and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, but opposition from the Labor government and the Greens.

KAP leader Robbie Katter first told Parliament he thought the bill was “important for parents”, stating: “I’m a parent of some young girls who will be hopefully participating in some sport one day […] Imagining them at 15 or 17 years old, post-puberty, competing against the odd person who might want to transfer to being female, that doesn’t sit well with me.” Katter maintained that whilst he did not want to deny anyone the opportunity to compete in sport, “there’s a distinct advantage when you cross over”. Katter also referred to the coming federal election, saying “in the context of the election, there are social issues on which we need to put a stake in the ground.”

Queensland Sporting Minister Stirling Hinchliffe opposed the motion, calling it a “blatant dog whistle”, and saying: “This is not a debate about sport or women’s rights. It is an attempt to cause fear and division and is unnecessarily dragging an extreme right-wing trope into this parliament.” Hinchliffe expressed that “making blanket decisions purely based on gender identity is not only draconian and bigoted, but unwarranted”.

Representatives from all parties but the LNP spoke in the debate, which lasted for approximately 30 minutes. Sparking interjections from other MPs, KAP Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto speculated that “we may see an opportunity for guys who now identify as women to put on a wig and jump into women’s sport because maybe they are washed up at the NRL”, and stated that transgender people having “full access” to female sports was neither fair nor safe. One Nation MP Stephen Andrew spoke in favour of the motion, asserting “if someone does not stand up for the rights of these people — either way — the outcome is that there will eventually be no women’s sport at all.”

The two Greens representatives spoke against the motion. Amy MacMahon, who represents South Brisbane, claimed “this motion today is not about women; it is about stoking up transmisogyny for cheap political tricks”, and said “if we are really serious about supporting women’s sports, let’s pay women’s sportspeople the same as men, show women’s sports on free-to-air TV and news coverage and start programs to encourage women and girls to take up sports.” Greens leader Michael Berkman called the motion “repugnant” and “unnecessary”, and stated: “I think it is telling that we are hearing not a single word from the opposition to speak against it.”

One third of English pubs allowed to extend their opening hours

Sunday, November 27, 2005At midnight on November 24, a new licensing law concerning the opening hours of English and Welsh pubs, clubs or shops selling alcohol came into effect, allowing around 60,000 establishments in England and Wales to extend their opening hours beyond the 23.00 limit in force until then, and dating back to the First World War. About 1000 premises, among which 359 are pubs or clubs, have applied and been granted a round the clock authorization, allowing them to stay open for 24 hours.

Tessa Jowell, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, expressed hope that this extension in opening times will lower the crave for massive drinking, prompted by the early closing of establishments. The British Beer and Pub Association, in a press release from 25 November, 2005, states “The change is about treating adults like grown-ups, and giving them more choice for a social life after eleven o’clock.”.

Concern has been raised throughout the media and diverse health organisations about a possible rise in violence and alcoholism due to this new law, but the first night seems to have gone well, although authorities claim that the effects can only be really measured in six months time, when more establishments have been granted extended hours and the public has become used to the new hours.

Queensland state Green party to run environmental lawyer in treasurer’s electorate

Thursday, February 5, 2009

The Queensland Greens will run an environmental lawyer against incumbent treasurer Andrew Fraser at this years Queensland state election in Australia. Larissa Waters will be the party’s candidate for the seat of Mt Coot-tha.

Ms Waters says she is hoping that the premier does not call the election in May, as she [Ms Waters] is expecting her first child that month.

“I am giving that a fair bit of interest,” she said. “Luckily we have a pretty good branch in Mt Coot-tha.”

Ms Waters received a 6 per cent swing at the 2006 election in the Brisbane Central electorate, which was then held by then premier Peter Beattie. She then missed out on a federal senate spot by a narrow margin.

While acknowledging Mr Fraser’s abilities, Ms Waters questions whether he was still in touch with the electorate.

“This has been the greenest electorate in Queensland is the past few elections,” she said. “And Andrew Fraser is just not green enough for this electorate. It think it is more important that he is more connected with the people of his electorate than schmoozing.”

The Greens unveiled its policy to open two solar power stations last weekend.

“We can tackle climate change and create long-term jobs, but Labor can’t see that because they are blinded by the interests of their big donors – the urban development and coal industries,” Ms Waters said.

“The Greens want to give the community and the environment a voice back in State Parliament.”

Queensland’s unicameral parliament is currently made up of 58 Australian Labor Party (ALP) members, 25 Liberal National Party (LNP) members, one member each from The Greens and One Nation and four independents.

Ms Waters believes there is a general dissatisfaction with both the ALP and LNP and promotes the Greens as an appropriate balance of power, similar to that of the party’s federal senate members.

Acknowledging the steps taken by the premier on reforming laws to protect the Great Barrier Reef, she has said that “[i]t is long overdue. But the package doesn’t cover the complete range of issues. We need both ‘stick and carrot’ in our approach in this area.”

Her campaign will be officially launched today on Mt Coot-tha.

The Basics Of Bathroom Renovations

By Jason Kay

Possibly inspired by family demand or circumstances, you have at last made the decision to renovate your bathroom. This could potentially be an expensive decision to make, as renovating a bathroom can be one of the costliest operations within the home, and if you do not plan your renovation carefully, you could be embarking on a difficult and frustrating project.

A primary thought before starting your renovations will be regarding any change in the size of your bathroom. Make the decision to resize only if it is an absolute necessity, as this is an aspect of your renovation which can be the most expensive. If the bathroom needs to be extended and the load bearing walls must be moved or removed; then review any possibility of an expansion via other walls that are not bearing weight. It is not usual that a drywall will require to be replaced during your renovation which is generally due to high moisture content, but it may be worth confirming with a contractor whether or not a full replacement is necessary.

For some homeowners, the renovation of their bathroom can be a pleasurable experience where they can flex their creative juices. For others, it can be extremely stressful and frustrating as they face a long period of renovation and a great deal of cost. Often, the individuals who fall into this category will be those who have discovered their bathroom is home to a multitude of problems, such as mold. Scientifically, mold is described as being a microscopic fungus, which not only has an unattractive appearance, but may be very dangerous. While certain types are harmless, others are considered as being toxic. It is an unfortunate fact that due to the moisture content, black, toxic mold is present in many bathrooms within the United States. In certain instances, you may feel it beneficial to obtain the opinion of a professional mold removal specialist or an air quality control specialist, regarding removal and prevention. It is always advisable in any event to have a fan installed in your bathroom as it is recognized that the circulation of air can help to eliminate moisture in the room, and therefore mold.

An added benefit you may wish to consider is the installation of a grey-water system. This aids in the collection of water from the sink and shower, for transference into your toilet and garden. The recycling of grey-water from showers and bath tubs is used for the flushing of toilets in most European and Australian jurisdictions. In the United States however, this system has been adopted where the International Plumbing Code has been accepted. The Uniform Plumbing Code that is followed in some jurisdictions within the United States and prohibits the use of ‘grey-water’ indoors. Further consideration as to which fixtures, fittings and finishes to use in your newly renovated bathroom, can include natural ceramic and non-toxic cement for the hardware. Complete extensive research into the various health benefits of using vanities constructed from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified woods and painted with a low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) product. In addition to this, it is advantageous to investigate into the advisability of not using vinyl shower curtains and replacing these with either non-PVC plastic or hemp.

A homeowner’s energy usage bill can include over 10% towards the heating of hot water alone. A means of obtaining some savings on this in the future is to install a tank-less water heater, or one which is solar powered. The initial costs may be higher; however, it will result in a saving of energy and costs in the future. The water is only heated when required so there is no unnecessary and wasted heating of the water. With a standard water heater, it will maintain the heat all day, even if the hot water is not being used.

With some research and thorough planning, your renovated bathroom can be a source of pride and enhance the overall value of your home. It is always beneficial to obtain a second opinion in terms of the changes you wish to make and those you need to make from a professional. Not only will this ensure that your renovations are completely to a high standard and in a safe manner, but you may also find that by employing the service of a professional, you will make fewer mistakes, thus saving money in the long run.

Quiznos restaurant chain airs controversial commercial

Friday, April 3, 2009

Quiznos, a fast food restaurant chain that specializes in selling submarine sandwiches, has aired a controversial television commercial, with an extended version only appearing in the late-night lineups. The commercial is a promotion for the company’s new sandwich, the ‘Toasty Torpedo’. Bob Sassone, a writer for TVSquad.com, argues that it is homosexually themed and compares it to pornography.

The commercial begins with a toaster oven talking to Scott, a Quiznos sandwich maker, in a male voice. “Scott, I want you to do something,” says the toaster to Scott. As he takes a bite of a Torpedo and appears to look in the direction of his genitals, Scott says to the toaster, “[sic] not doing that again. That burned.” The toaster replies, “We both enjoyed that.”

Later in the commercial, the toaster asks Scott to make one of the sandwiches and says the price of it is “sexy” and then “sexier.” Scott grins and does so. The toaster then asks Scott to “stick it in me”. The sandwich just happens to be 12 inches long, giving the appearance of a special relationship between Scott and the toaster oven.

Quiznos published a press release on March 24 announcing the new line of sandwiches. They stated that their price of US$4 helps to ease the economic pinch. In a statement to Wikinews Quiznos stated that their commercials are within the company’s character and they were designed to get people talking.

“We developed our new ads to be consistent with the Quiznos brand and to get people excited about our new Toasty Torpedoes. Some of the ads are edgy and provocative, but they’re well within the confines of the Quiznos brand character,” said Rebecca Steinfort, chief marketing officer for Quiznos to Wikinews.

“Since Quiznos has a broad range of consumers that eat at its more than 4,500 restaurants nationwide, we tailor our commercials to be relevant and appeal to our diverse customers – all of whom are watching different kinds of programming. The new ads are fun and entertaining, and the edginess and innuendo of the ads are designed to get people talking about our new Toasty Torpedoes, and that’s exactly what we want: people to talk and taste our new sandwiches,” added Steinfort.

Bob Sassone a writer for TVSquad.com, one of the Internet’s top television weblogs, compared the commercial to a pornography film.

“The new Quizno’s commercial is probably the closest we’ll get to a gay porn flick in a mainstream sub shop ad,” Sassone wrote.

In 2007, the company made another controversial commercial. It featured people on the street eating samples of a Quiznos ‘Prime Rib Dinner’ sandwich. They promoted it as having a lot of “meat” and near the end it featured two women eating a sandwich saying, “It’s not lacking any meat. And that’s what real women need”.

“Nevertheless, Quiznos remains committed to providing its customers with high-quality ingredients at everyday lower prices, all with excellent service. As such, we encourage consumers to give feedback on the commercials to our corporate marketing department through the website,” said Steinfort.
