So therefore self-esteem is the feeling of self-worth that determines how valuable and competent we feel about ourselves and our whole personality. One of the largest factors that several youth should deal with today is in relation to their self-esteem and how they see themselves. Several people suffer by looking at themselves as not good enough. It ranges from seeing their body image in the wrong light to seeing their mental states as not quite right. This is an unhealthy practice that can be pretty damaging in the long run. In sports, self-esteem is more likely to develop. It is evident that those who play sports are more likely to decrease chances of unhealthy activities. Sports are not just about getting fit or a mere hobby. Sports experiences can positively or negatively affect a child’s self-esteem. Plus it can also develop and reinforce other helpful traits such as teamwork, camaraderie, and friendship. A positive self-esteem is a key to psychological well-being. Critical periods for boosting or reducing self-esteem occur in a child’s young life and again adolescence. Self-esteem can be enhanced by positive experiences in sports; self-esteem can be improved by being good at sports or in a particular sport. In simple way sports self-esteem may be reflected simply by moving actively. Sports like swimming, badminton, basketball and a lot more tends our body to produce serotonin which makes us feel good and really energetic. The interaction with teammates, coaches and parents shape how we feel about ourselves. Coaches, families and teammates can boost an athlete’s self-esteem by creating a supportive environment that celebrates the athlete’s skill and development and includes positive social relationships.
